چکیده

The radiative direct capture of neutrons is calculated within the potential model. The uncertainties related to the choice of the neutron-nucleus interaction potential and the prediction of the excitation spectrum in the residual nucleus are discussed. The allowed direct E1-type transitions to all the excited states predicted by a combinatorial model of nuclear level densities are calculated with the introduction of an average spectroscopic factor. The resulting direct contribution to the neutron capture rate is estimated for all the neutron-rich nuclei potentially involved in the r-process nucleosynthesis and compared with the statistical compound nucleus contribution. The total radiative capture cross section is approximated and used in parametric r-process calculations to study the impact of the direct capture mechanism on the r-process nucleosynthesis.

Neutrino-nucleus interaction and supernova r-process nucleosynthesis

We discuss various neutrino-nucleus interactions in connection with the supernova rprocess nucleosynthesis, which possibly occurs in the neutrino-driven wind of a young neutron star. These interactions include νe and ν̄e absorptions on free nucleons, νe captures on neutron-rich nuclei, and neutral-current νμ(τ) and ν̄μ(τ) interactions with α-particles and neutron-rich nuclei. We describe how thes...

The Role of Fission in Neutron Star Mergers and its Impact on the r-Process Peaks

Comparing observational abundance features with nucleosynthesis predictions of stellar evolution or explosion simulations can scrutinize two aspects: (a) the conditions in the astrophysical production site and (b) the quality of the nuclear physics input utilized. We test the abundance features of r-process nucleosynthesis calculations for the dynamical ejecta of neutron star merger simulations...

Neutrinos and the Supernova Origin of the Elements

Intense fluxes of neutrinos are emitted by the hot neutron star produced in a supernova. The average supernova neutrino energies satisfy a robust hierarchy 〈Eνe〉 < 〈Eν̄e〉 < 〈Eνμ(τ)〉 ≈ 〈Eν̄μ(τ)〉. The νe and ν̄e capture reactions on neutrons and protons, respectively, provide heating to drive a wind from the hot neutron star. The same reactions also determine the neutron-richness of the wind materia...

r-PROCESS IN PROMPT SUPERNOVA EXPLOSIONS REVISITED

We reanalyze r-process nucleosynthesis in the neutron-rich ejecta from a prompt supernova explosion of a low-mass (11 M⊙) progenitor. Although it has not yet been established that a prompt explosion can occur, it is not yet ruled out as a possibility for low-mass supernova progenitors. Moreover, there is mounting evidence that a new r-process site may be required. Hence, we assume that a prompt...

It is well known that thermally pulsing Asymptotic Giant Branch stars with low mass play a relevant role in the chemical evolution. They have synthesized about 30% of the galactic carbon and provide an important contribution to the nucleosynthesis of heavy elements (A>80). The relevant nucleosynthesis site is the He-rich intermediate zone (less than 10 M⊙), where α(2α, γ) C reactions and slow n...
